I love new ideas and love reinventing myself. I was the prototype for those people who were going to have 5 careers in their lifetime. Including coldripr I’m up to number 7 (not including my side projects).

You see, I started out my working life as a hydraulics and pneumatics sales engineer, after completing a mechanical engineering degree in university, but I only lasted in the job for 8-weeks. It’s ok I wasn’t fired, I quit. Not to go to another engineering firm but rather to become a filmmaker.

A decade, an award winning documentary, award winning short films and a feature film later I went back to university to do a Masters and then a PhD in media and communications. I lectured and worked in the university system for another 5 years, until I got bored with that and joined a company doing UX design - this was in the early days of the ecommerce boom. I helped banks and insurance companies make it easier for customers to find and purchase their products.

Then I got headhunted for a role in Australia’s largest health insurer to help solve the problem of public hospitals. Another 5 years later and I was done with that job too. It was then I knew my next opportunity would involve design thinking, a process of problem definition and problem solving.

Now I’m fortunate enough to work for a global education consultancy that specialises in design thinking in schools, which is hugely rewarding and fun all at the same time.

Throughout all my jobs I’ve always been tinkering with different ideas that range from running a digital agency to writing a TV series based on a book from the Bible, and from developing an oxygen pipeline to be installed on the surface of the moon to cold drip coffee…
